ROOTED IN JESUS DAY CONFERENCE
Christ Church, Northcourt Road, Abingdon, Oxon 4th December 2010
Dear Friends
I am writing to invite you to a Rooted in Jesus day conference, as someone who has either already been involved in RinJ or who may be interested in working with us in the future, either personally or through an existing diocesan link. The day is to be held at Christ Church Abingdon on Saturday December 4th. The purpose of the day is to celebrate, encourage, envision and enliven the gift of Rooted in Jesus from its inception to the present, and to think creatively about its development for the future.
Rooted in Jesus continues to grow and expand. Invitations have come mostly by word of mouth from diocese to diocese, and from this year RinJ will be in use in 22 dioceses or denominations in 9 African countries. We are sending out 8 teams from ReSource this year; a further 11 are in discussion for 2011. Our sister organisation SOMA are also working with RinJ, planning a team this year and one for next.
The day will have various elements - some (African!) worship, some input from me on the vision and development of Rooted in Jesus, some feedback from recent teams, and some themed workshops. One of these will be for existing Rooted in Jesus team leaders and those who may be interested in becoming involved in leadership in the future. Others will be for team members, for our team of UK intercessors, and for supporters and those interested in finding out more. We will be looking both to share good practice and to stimulate discussion and feedback.
The day will run from 10 till 4.30, and full details will be sent out within a few weeks; you will be most welcome to bring people with you (though numbers are limited so everyone coming will need to register). There will be no charge for the day, but there will be a freewill offering towards the work of Rooted in Jesus at the end.
We continue to be encouraged and surprised by the demand for and response to Rooted in Jesus. Since its inception in Leicester 8 years ago it has expanded steadily. Bishop Martin Breytenbach, Diocese of St Mark the Evangelist, South Africa, commented recently "I have no doubt that God has commissioned and anointed this course for Africa in much the same way as he is using Alpha in more urban and 'western' settings. We are already starting to see remarkable things in this Diocese as people and congregations are set on fire with the love of Jesus."
I do hope and pray that you will be able to join us.
with love in Christ Jesus
